Baan Dada 2006
Around Sangkhlaburi

Baan Unrak Bakery Internet Cafe in Sangkhlaburi Thailand

The other orphanage in town has a bakery and internet cafe. They have wonderful cheese bread.

It's simply divine.

(And cheap)

They also sell some woven products that raises money for the home.

This is the Baan Unrak cafe, not related to BaanDada.org

Truck donated to BaanDada.org in Sangkhlaburi Thailand

Some nice person donated a truck which Dada desperately needed.

We had too much luggage, but still managed to fit 6 people in the back and some in the front.

Sangkhlaburi Thailand Market

There is a market in town with various shops for buying fruit and other things.

Sangkhlaburi Thailand Taxi

A typical taxi in the backwoods of Thailand. You jump in the back and pay about 10-20 baht.
That's about 30-60 yen and still less than $1 USD.

A morning shot of downtown Sangkhlaburi, Kanchanaburi, western Thailand.

Sangkhlaburi Thailand Bus Station

This is the sign you want to look for when heading back to Bangkok.
This place has the nice bus as pictured below. The place has a minivan packed with 15 people.

Foreigners waiting for the bus in Sangkhlaburi Thailand

There were about 30 foreigners waiting for the same bus. The locals were overwhelmed.
But the store by the bus station was quite happy.

Bus from Sangkhlaburi Thailand to Bangkok

This is the nice VIP A/C bus that goes directly to and from Bangkok to Sangkhlaburi. The place listed
is Dan Chedi Samong, which is the Three Pagodas Pass (border of Burma). If you are heading to Dada's
or Baan Unrak, print out this photo and show the bus people in Bangkok so you get the right bus.

Foreigners never go light on the luggage. Both sides were packed to the brim
and then people carried some luggage inside the bus.

Sangkhlaburi Thailand Floating House

Once the other volunteers left, two of us hung around with the kids at floating house.
The path there was also floating and somewhat dangerous I thought, especially at night.

Sangkhlaburi Thailand Floating House

Once you are on the house they pull it out into the middle of the lake and let you relax.
There is a bathroom on board.

Sangkhlaburi Thailand Famous Wooden Bridge

This is a famous wooden bridge. There is a classic shot of monks walking across it in the morning mist,
but we were unable to get the shot. Some of us were up from 6-7 and no monks crossed.

Sangkhlaburi Thailand Boat

This is "said" boat that pulls "said" house out into "said" lake.

That really sounds strange.

There is a small kitchen on the house boat, or really just a gas tank and cooker.

Some volunteers donated a tent and Dada let the young girls stay in it since it would be warmer.

Sangkhlaburi Thailand Temple

A temple on the hill near Sangkhlaburi and another town.

A temporary food stand attached to a motorcycle.
