Baan Dada 2006
The other orphanage in town has a bakery and internet cafe. They have wonderful cheese bread. It's simply divine. (And cheap)
They also sell some woven products that raises money for the home. This is the Baan Unrak cafe, not related to BaanDada.org
Some nice person donated a truck which Dada desperately needed.
We had too much luggage, but still managed to fit 6 people in the back and some in the front.
There is a market in town with various shops for buying fruit and other things.
A typical taxi in the backwoods of Thailand. You jump in the back and pay
about 10-20 baht.
A morning shot of downtown Sangkhlaburi, Kanchanaburi, western Thailand.
This is the sign you want to look for when heading back to Bangkok.
There were about 30 foreigners waiting for the same bus. The locals were
overwhelmed.
This is the nice VIP A/C bus that goes directly to and from Bangkok to
Sangkhlaburi. The place listed
Foreigners never go light on the luggage. Both sides were packed to the
brim
Once the other volunteers left, two of us hung around with the kids at
floating house.
Once you are on the house they pull it out into the middle of the lake and
let you relax.
This is a famous wooden bridge. There is a classic shot of monks walking
across it in the morning mist,
This is "said" boat that pulls "said" house out into "said" lake. That really sounds strange.
There is a small kitchen on the house boat, or really just a gas tank and cooker.
Some volunteers donated a tent and Dada let the young girls stay in it since it would be warmer.
The dirt road to Dada's place.
A temple on the hill near Sangkhlaburi and another town.
A temporary food stand attached to a motorcycle.
An example of a booth in the market selling general stuff.
